The second patient to be treated with bromocriptine was a woman with a large pituitary tumour and extremely high prolactin levels. Bromocriptine lowered her prolactin levels into the normal range, galactorrhoea ceased, and menstruation returned within one month of starting therapy, even though the patient had been amenorrhoeic for several years.
The third patient had post-oral contraceptive amenorrhoea and galactorrhoea associated with hyperprolactinaemia. Bromocriptine therapy lowered the prolactin levels to normal and led to cessation of the patient's galactorrhoea and to normal menstruation (Fig. 4.14).
